This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the Video to Text Chrome extension (“the extension”, “we”, “us”). In short: your video stays on your computer, only its audio is sent for transcription, we don’t keep your audio or transcripts, and we don’t collect personal information.
The following stays in your browser’s local extension storage and is never sent to us:
The extension does not send analytics or usage events, and this website does not use cookies or analytics. Versions before 2.2.0 sent anonymous usage events (a random installation ID, event names such as “opened” or “error”, extension version, browser language and operating system type) to a database hosted on Supabase. Version 2.2.0 no longer does this. Those earlier events were never linked to your name, email or Google account, and never contained file names, audio or transcripts.
Audio is processed by one of the following providers. We try them in order and use the first one that is available:
Our API runs on Cloudflare. We do not use your audio or transcripts to train AI models, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.
The free service has a daily limit. To enforce it, the extension creates a random installation ID (not linked to your name, email or Google account) and sends it to our API with each audio part. Our API counts requests per installation ID and per IP address. IP addresses are stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form, and the counters reset every day. Our servers keep short-lived technical logs (such as error messages, never audio or transcripts) to keep the service running.
After you install the extension, a welcome page opens on this website. It receives nothing from your files. When you uninstall the extension, your browser may open a short optional survey in a new tab. It is a Google Form, so anything you submit there is handled by Google as well; we receive nothing unless you choose to submit it, and the extension itself sends no data.
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
Our API and providers operate globally, so your audio may be processed on servers in different countries. The same protections described here apply wherever it is processed.
For users in the European Economic Area and the UK, we process audio to perform the service you request, and abuse prevention on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and free.
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and publish the new version at this address.
